Children’s classes will resume Summer 2026. 

MotionArt children’s classes focus on enhancing individual creativity while facilitating an understanding of the dance elements of Space, Time and Energy. Our emphasis is on providing an experience where children can grow and develop – both in their movement skill and in their artistic expression – in a fun and nurturing environment. All instructors for these classes are professional dance educators who specialize in teaching children.

Classes are held in the Center for Performing Arts (CFPA), 3754 Pleasant Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55409

Creative Dance (ages 3-5) 45 mins

In these 3-week mini sessions, preschoolers explore dance concepts through playful, structured activities accompanied by acoustic instruments and a wide variety of music. Children expand their movement vocabulary, develop body awareness, and gain self-confidence in a fun, nurturing environment.

Creative Dance (ages 5-7) 60 mins

This class facilitates an understanding of the dance elements of Space, Time and Energy through improvised and structured activities. Children explore multiple concepts within these elements while practicing movement skills and enjoying new challenges. Students at this age begin to create their own dances and share them with their peers. No previous experience necessary.

Creative Dance/Introduction to Modern Dance (ages 7-10)

n this engaging mini-session of dance, students will expand their creative potential and deepen their kinesthetic awareness. Through playful exploration, they’ll delve into fundamental concepts related to the dance elements of Space, Time, and Energy. Throughout the course, students will be introduced to basic technical skills and movement vocabulary of Modern Dance. They’ll also have exciting opportunities to improvise and create their own dances, fostering artistic expression and collaboration. No prior dance experience is necessary—just a willingness to move and explore!
